Totally random stuff, but I just noticed recently that sometimes there are cats resting on the stairway of the building next to ours. So cute~~~ I tried to talk to them but they just ignored me and continue to sleep~

Since I am going back to USA for a few days soon I had to go get the re-entry permit. And Japan has changed the student Visa (there were two kinds and now only one is left), so the re-entry permit policy also changed. Now you can only get the multiple entry type for 6000 yen, instead paying less for the one-time-only permit they had before.

坐JR到品川車站下車~ 我因為聽說人會很多所以7:30就出門了~剛好遇到大家上班的時段, 山手線擠爆炸~XD;;;

Took the JR train to the Shinagawa station.  I went there pretty early since my friend told me there would be a lot of people.  It was during the morning rush so the Yamanote line was filled with people. ^^;

Take the #8 bus to the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau.

The station was filled with people who were going to work.

Under 10 mins from the station to the office by bus.

The line for the bus to the Immigration Bureau was long so I guess people don’t really have to worry about standing in the wrong line.

After you filled in the application form, you have to go to the convenience store on the first floor of the building to pay the 6000 yen for the permit. They will give you two stamp-like voucher for you to paste on the proof of payment form, which could be obtained on the second floor, in front of the re-entry permit counter. Then just take a number and wait for your number to be called. All you need is the application form + payment form (with the expensive voucher pasted on it) + passport + foreigner registration card.

They will paste a sticker on your passport and you’re done. A very expensive sticker by the way. ^^;

This happened about a month ago, but everyone that knows me knows that I’m lazy…so here it is! finally, the summer fireworks show of Japan~

Every summer from July to the end of August or the start of September, there are a lot of firework shows in Japan. The one we went to was held at Sumida river near Asakusa. It’s a pretty big one and lots of people attend every year.

I brought my camera with the battery fully charged, but when I was about to take a photo, I realized that I didn’t put in the memory card…so I stole all the photos from my friends’ Facebook album XDDD.

You probably have to start looking for seats a few days before the event…=_= but as naive as we were, we went around 3pm that day while the event starts around 7:30pm. There were no seats around Asakusa, so we kept walking along the Sumida river…After walking for about 1.5 hour We finally found a spot in a park at Minami Senju 南千住.

Since my friend and I wore yukata, it was very hot. If I didn’t drink sports drink I would probably die of dehydration or get a heatstroke. Different from kimono, yukata is for summer or sometimes you can find them at the inn in Japan, where you can wear it to go to the hot springs. Our teacher said yukata is very informal compared to kimono. It’s a close equivalent as jeans compared to suits. =)

and by the way, the round fan we were holding is called uchiwa/団扇. And my friend, the guy on the right side, was wearing a type of Japanese clothes called “jinbei/甚平” and not a yukata. Jinbei is not one piece like the yukata, but a top wear with a shorts that you can move easily as compared to yukata…which was a little hard to walk around for me. LOL

the weather was very hot…T-T

must…play….games………

It was a little embarrassing at first wearing yukata and walking towards the train station, but you’ll get used to it soon, and especially after you saw A LOT of people wearing yukata. ^^ It’s a pretty interesting experience for me to experience the Japanese culture of firework viewing.

Btw, I waited 30min for the restroom because there were so many people….

Our school had an one week summer break so my friends and I used this chance to visit Karuizawa. It’s about 1 hour away from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Karuizawa is a famous summer resort in Japan; there are lots of people that owns mansion in the area. It was definitely cooler than Tokyo and was filled with people when we went there.

We took the 7:56 train from Ueno station towards karuizawa and arrived there around 9:20 or so. This is the photo

Other than the pictures I took myself, I stole a few from my friends.

We took the sightseeing bus at the #2 bus stop. The bus tour is from 10am - 3:30pm for 4000yen. We were lucky that there were still spaces for us that day. ^^

We went to the Asama Volcano Museum. It was ok, not very exciting for me but there is a trail in the back of the museum that has a great view~ too bad we didn’t have enough time to walk around because we spent too much time in the museum…

突然出現在山中的機車博物館~^^;

希望他們是附近的居民..我想如果是養在東京應該狗狗會熱死吧….^^;;

吃完飯後就在車站附近的一片outlet逛店~不過很多店都是超高級的。就算是outlet價格也是買不下去XDD 真不愧是輕井澤~有錢人的度假區。^^;

Today is a holiday in Japan, which is called Umi no Hi/海の日 (Sea Day). Our teacher told us that this holiday was created because July didn’t have a holiday while all the other months have breaks. XD Since today we got a day off, I went to the experience course at Nihon Kogakuin College for the day. It was super hot…..

				The school is located at Hachiouji 八王子, which is about 1.5 hour away from Tokyo, so I woke up around 6:30 today. I knew the school is big, but I didn’t expect it to be THIS big…a student told me that it’s the same size as Disneyland. XD

A lot of the buildings look pretty new~ and the wide open spaces reminds me of Universities in the US. Haven’t been to a wide open space in a while…there’s not that much empty space in Tokyo. ^^;

Orz.

I went to the whole day course. 2 hours in the morning + free lunch + 2 hours in the afternoon. I like the teachers and the students I met a lot. One of the teacher I met today worked on some background for Final Fantasy X. I recognized the scenes that he worked on when he showed them to us~ pretty cool. XD

We also get to visit the motion capture studio at the school. They said it’s the second largest motion capture studio in Japan, so sometimes some professionals would come and use it. =)

Overall I like the school a lot and am considering of applying, but I’m gonna go to see 2 other schools before I make the decision~~ It’s gonna be busy these few months~

Btw, Starbucks changed their menu for the hot summer season and there’s a new Yuzu/Grapefruit + Green Tea Frappucchino which is very delicious ~~ Bought one on my way back home today.

The exam system was changed this year, and we were the first one to take the new exam. =_=; Previously, you just need to get 60% of the total score to pass, but now you need to get 60% on each section to pass.

Personally I feel that the grammar part is harder than the simulation exam given by the school. But thankfully, the listening part was about the same.

But anyways, what is done is done~ XD the results would be mailed out around September. (I don’t know why it takes 2 months to get the results mailed to us…when the answers were all marked on scantron. =_=) If I don’t pass then I’ll take it again in December, if I pass then I’ll try the N1 exam then. XD;

Random stuff, our teacher said she went to Kyoto and had fun while we are taking the exam. XD She brought some candy(金太郎飴) to class for us.

On 6/27 my friend and I went to a Taiwanese restaurant in Akihabara. The store’s website is here

The store is really small and only has about 6 seats. There’s not many items on the menu but enough to bring back the memories of trips back to Taiwan. XD The Chi-Pai, which is a fried chicken fillet with lots of white pepper~ is a famous snack/food in Taiwan.

There were lots of notes left by the customers~ it was a lot of fun to read.

“Place that Otaku must visit.” XD Well, the store is next to a maid cafe actually~

The menu~ it also has the tea-boiled egg that’s a very common food in Taiwan. And of course, the tapioca drinks that you’ll see everywhere in Taiwan~

The minced pork with rice that’s also very common in Taiwan. It tastes pretty good~~

My friend ordered the daikon radish cake. She said it’s a bit different than the ones in Taiwan; this one tastes more like mochi. XD

The chicken fillet set comes with fries. I wanted to advise that using sweet potato would make it even more Taiwan-ish~~

Then of course we gotta try the tapioca milk tea. It’s very good~ it wasn’t very sweet so I like it very much.

Then last but not least, the chicken fillet. Very good~ very much like the Taiwanese taste.

When we went there, there was a Japanese guy sitting next to us. After he heard us speaking in Chinese, he asked if we came from Taiwan and we started to chat about the food and Taiwan. He expressed that he like Taiwan very much~

Even though the Japanese proficiency exam is coming up soon…my friends and I decided to go to a butler cafe today. The store is called Swallowtail and their homepage is here.

We’ve been thinking about it for a long time and today we finally did it. When I told my Japanese friends about ‘butler cafe’ they didn’t know what I was talking about…and thought I meant to say ‘hituji（羊）’ than ’shitsuji(執事)’. So I had to explain that it’s a girl’s version of a maid cafe…LOL.

The cafe is located in Ikebukuro 池袋, which is also where the ‘otome road’ is located. Otome road is just a street that has lots of stores selling otome related goods. The store is below a doujinshi store not far from the Animate(famous store that sells all kinds of manga/anime and seiyuu stuff) building.

As much as I wanted to take photos…no photos inside~ so I can only take photos of the outside…=_=|||
雖然說我超想拍照的, 可是相機跟手機完全禁止~ 所以只能出來的時候拍招牌 ^^;;

The store requires reservation 15 days before the day you want to go. An interesting thing is when I confirm the reservation online it had me choose what we would like to be called (such as お嬢様） and what we would like them to say when we leave (a funny option is “your horse carriage is ready” or something like that LOL). And they don’t say “welcome to our store / いらっしゃいませ”, instead they say “welcome home / お帰りなさいませ、お嬢様”. LOL

There a reservation board outside the store and it’s all full when we got there.  And today is not a holiday nor weekend….^^;

*I do not own this picture, it’s from their webpage.

*I do not own this picture, it’s from their webpage.
This is the set that I ordered.

I ordered an afternoon tea set called Anna Maria (2800 yen) and asked our footman if I could just take the picture of our food…but he said no photos even if it’s just the food.. The food is actually really good~ and their jam is super good~~ I think they have a separate pastry shop close by and you can buy scones and maybe their jam there.

The set has 3 plates…every time I finish one plate he would come and ask which one I would like to eat next and change it for me. It’s kinda embarrassing to be served XDDD;;;; but I guess that’s the whole point of butler cafe~

The butler and footman there would carry your bags, pour tea for you..etc, and use very proper keigo/敬語(honorific form Japanese). Sometimes the honorific form is too hard and I couldn’t understand XDDDDD. The footman responsible for our table was the type that I like LOL and very good looking in my opinion~ so I’m all happy~ but my friend preferred another type XD.

They had a little bell on the table that you could ring if you want to call them…which was pretty much when you wanted to do anything. From ordering food, want them to pour tea, change your plate… to lead you to the bathroom. LOL I was kinda embarrassed to ring the bell and had him pour tea for me so I did it once myself, and maybe he noticed so he kept observing our table and whenever I almost finish the tea or the plate of food he would come and change it. XDD

I was a very interesting experience and if my friends visit me in Tokyo and wanted to go I would definitely take them. One of my Japanese friend said I kept going to all the weird places like maid cafe, neko cafe an,d now butler cafe~ LOL I know it’s all weird…but..but it’s fun \(^^)/~ so there will probably be more to come~
